Why Xavier Townsend and Other Knights Transferred
Interesting Tidbit on UCF's Recent Transfers
The transfer portal is part of college football now and it has completely changed the constitution of rosters.
Not only do you have to re-recruit your own players every single season, you also have to worry about losing players in season due to the redshirt rule.
Any player can appear in up to 4 games without losing a year of eligibility. So, Week 5 of the season has essentially become “redshirt week” where players across the country decide to sit out the rest of the season with the intent to transfer in order to preserve a year of their college career.
UCF is obviously no different.
This season, UCF lost the following players to redshirt/transfer:
WR Xavier Townsend
PK Colton Boomer
DB William Wells
DL Kaven Call
DB Bryon Threats
OL Wes Dorsey
None are particularly massive losses outside of Townsend, who I believe is a bigger loss on Special Teams over the passing game.
